February is Independent Restaurant Month |
The month of February is a good month to go out and support your local independent restaurants. Independent restaurants are the character of our community and the embodiment of our local culinary culture.
Recently, a dozen local restaurateurs banded together to help promote each other over the alternative – the big chain restaurants. The mission is to support and market our local member restaurants. Dining at a locally owned restaurant delivers more money back into your own community. Chain restaurants send the majority of their money somewhere else.
Local restaurants are more likely to use local food and to give back more to their community than their chain counterparts. We like to utilize as much as we can from our local area such as the farmers market, the butcher, our local bakeries, professional services like insurance, accounting, marketing etc. All this helps to keep the recirculation of local dollars flowing.
Furthermore, local restaurants offer the Brockville experience rather than the same one you get all across the nation.
Studies have shown that local restaurants return 56 % of their revenue to the local economy. in the form of wages, goods and services purchased locally profits and donations. Chain restaurants return only 37%.
So if you are dining out this month please remember our community and consider the little guy. You won’t be disappointed.
